Iceland is well known as the land of fire and ice because of its strong volcanic activity and abundance of glaciers. It is an island of 39,756 square miles, about one-third larger than Scotland or Ireland. The nation's capital is the most northern capital in the world.

Random facts: Reykjavik is the only capital city in the world that has a salmon river running right through it. And everyone is listed by their first name in the telephone book.
