brighton | snapshots

Brighton, England is just over 50 miles south of London on the coast of Great Britain. A nice place to escape the city for the day. Just beware of giant seagulls whilst eating ice cream and keep in mind that the beach is made entirely of rocks!

copenhagen | snapshots

Copenhagen is the capital of Denmark and its most populous city. Nearly a thousand years old, Copenhagen began as a simple fishing village and a commerce center. It faces the Öresund to the east, the strait of water that separates Denmark from Sweden, and which connects the North Sea with the Baltic Sea. The Swedish towns of Malmö and Landskrona lie on the Swedish side of the sound directly across from Copenhagen.

Iceland is well known as the land of fire and ice because of its strong volcanic activity and abundance of glaciers. It is an island of 39,756 square miles, about one-third larger than Scotland or Ireland. The nation's capital is the most northern capital in the world.

Random facts: Reykjavik is the only capital city in the world that has a salmon river running right through it. And everyone is listed by their first name in the telephone book.

Venice is the world's only pedestrian city. It's sited on a group of 118 small islands separated by canals and linked by bridges. This sanctuary on a lagoon is virtually the same as it was six hundred years ago.

Paris is the capital and largest city of France. It is situated on the river Seine at the heart of the Ile-de-France region. Please find your way to Bouillon Racine and have a crème brûlée stuffed waffle.

paris | rue cler

Rue Cler is one of the best market streets in Paris. It is lined with a selection of specialty food stores, patisseries, butchers, delicatessens, cheese specialists, fishmongers, greengrocers, chocolate shops and cafés.

Some worthwhile stops | le petit cler for breakfast | Café Roussillon for wine and cheese | L'Eclair for brunch | La Fromagerie for cheese |  nysa for champagne

versailles | snapshots

Versailles the city, established in the late 1600s, is about 10 miles south-west of Paris. The Palace of Versailles, or simply Versailles, is a royal château in Versailles in the Île-de-France region of France. There is more to see and do in Versailles than just the palace. There's a market, cute shops and patisseries where you can have a tarte aux framboises.

Random fact: The modern method of tennis scoring is said to have originated in the city of Versailles.

Last week I spent a few days exploring the capital of the Netherlands. Amsterdam is the world's most bicycle-friendly city. In fact, the 780,000 people who live in Amsterdam own an estimated 881,000 bicycles. There's no point in visiting the city unless you discover the streets on a bike!
